Gate is one of many guardians to the gates of hell. She allows the masses to come in, and depending on the weight of their soul and their beliefs, she designates them to their correct area. Like a sorting machine. If you behaved well and your soul is mostly pure, you may be marked for reincarnation. However if not, you may be sent off for an afterlife of punishment.
Gate has no sight as well, having her eyes ripped out by a violent demon in ancient times. Even if the hinderance bothered her, she tries not to show it, being rather bubbly and eccentric most of the time. She loves her job, she loves her off time, and Jade tends to favor and pamper her. The lack of sight only aids her in judging someone purely by their soul.
When she's not doing her work, she's typically joined by a caretaker called Wake, who was assigned to aid her but has basically become her audiobook. He helps her write too, noting down various stories, happenings, and lore to document for future generations. Even though she has a servant, she's not bossy to him at all, just happy to have a friend that tags along with her. She likes to poke fun at him, try to get him to be a little excited and stay in a positive mindset. Gate loves hearing about modern day happenings, and will often ask to hear about the overworld's newspapers, books, and more recently anything on the internet. She also oversees an underworld library and is a keeper of many tales.
